Through a range of IYS and other services, young people who were experiencing difficulties were able to connect with mental health, alcohol and other drugs, sexual assault, and other support workers, in addition to IYS support workers and specialisations. The HUT promotes diversity and inclusion and assists young people to develop their conflict resolution and mediation skills, as well as providing opportunities for young people to build positive relationships with PCYC and police liaison officers.
Lockdowns and physical distancing requirements associated with the COVID-19 global pandemic saw us have to shut the doors to the HUT whilst we developed COVID-safe operating processes to enable us to reopen the space.
A second consequence of the pandemic has been a reduction in the availability of grants and other financial supports which enable us to staff and run activities at the HUT.
We are very excited to be reopening the HUT in 2021, and whilst we are starting out one day per fortnight, we are very optimistic about gaining the necessary support to enable us to resume more frequent and regular activities at this valuable youth centre.
